Advice about cat care

Caring for a cat.

Never feed a cat chocolate. It is deadly for them.

Under no circumstances should you cut his nails (let alone extract teeth, unless your vet does this for medical reasons), as this would leave him defenceless and unable to escape by climbing a tree or scratching the nose of an attacker. Never cut a cat’s whiskers, as he uses these to judge the size of an opening. Without them, he could easily get stuck in a gap and die. Confine your grooming to brushing or combing, if he is happy with it – not all of them are. Don’t do it too hard, as this can hurt. Never smack a cat hard. It is a small animal, and what a human can take by way of a clout can damage his body. Moreover, you could easily lose his friendship for good.

Neutering, spaying.

Neutering or spaying are a good idea if you do not want to breed from your cat. The results are: 1. No breeding possible, so you could be saving a lot of potential feline misery in a world vastly overpopulated by cats – and people. 2. Not being able to mark their territory effectively, house cats are less inclined to wander far if neutered.
